A SIP trunk for your phone system

A SIP trunk connects your business phone system to the public telephone network over IP. Receive calls on your numbers, make outbound calls and pay for the traffic you use.

Why choose Viatel's SIP trunk

A direct route to the telephone network

Connect your phone system to our network over your internet connection. We're connected directly to Telia, Tele2, Tre and Telenor, so calls reach the operators without intermediaries. Each additional intermediary introduces another point where audio quality or phone-menu keypresses can fail.

Our platform runs across two separate facilities, supporting businesses that depend on their phone service. The same direct connections that reduce faults also keep costs down, with no intermediary taking a share.

Use cases

When a SIP trunk is the right choice

A SIP trunk suits businesses that run their own phone system and need an operator to connect it to the network. The service has a setup fee and a fixed monthly fee, plus usage charges.

Your own IP phone system

You run a phone system such as Asterisk and need an operator to receive calls from the telephone network and place calls to Swedish subscribers.

Switching operators

You already have a SIP trunk and want to move to a lower-cost provider. We port your numbers and you connect your phone system to our network.

Multiple offices

Use the same numbering plan wherever your staff work. One SIP trunk can serve multiple locations.

When many people call at once

Our direct connections to all major Swedish networks give you capacity for very high numbers of concurrent calls.

Technology and numbers

How we connect your phone system

The connection uses standard SIP. When you order, we provide a technical specification with addresses, ports and test numbers.

Standard SIP and RTP

SIP signalling over UDP and media over RTP, using the G.711 codec and DTMF in accordance with RFC 2833.

Two facilities

Our SIP platform runs in two separate facilities with their own address ranges for redundancy and high availability.

Numbers and number blocks

Individual geographic numbers or blocks of 100 or 1,000. You can port your existing numbers.

Get started

From order to live service

We work with your technician to set up the connection. We provide addresses and port ranges, then test calls before launch.

Check the requirements

We first check that your phone system is compatible with our SIP trunk and that you have a static IP address you control.

What is a SIP trunk?

A SIP trunk connects your business phone system to the public telephone network. Calls travel over the internet instead of a physical phone line. A SIP trunk can handle several hundred concurrent calls.

Will it work with our phone system?

In most cases, yes. We use standard SIP, which works with most IP phone systems, including 3CX, FreePBX and Asterisk. Tell us about your setup, whether you need inbound calls, outbound calls or both, your required concurrent call capacity and whether you have a static IP address. We'll check compatibility before you order.

Can we keep our phone numbers?

Yes. You can port your existing mobile and geographic numbers to Viatel. We can also supply new numbers, individually or in blocks of 100 or 1,000.

How many calls can we handle at once?

Choose the capacity you need and increase it later as your needs change. You pay for the channel capacity and call traffic you use.

Do we need an internet connection from Viatel?

No. Calls use your existing internet connection. You need a static IP address that you fully control, because you are billed for all traffic associated with it.

Do we need a static IP address?

Yes. You need a static IP address; DNS cannot be used instead. All inbound and outbound calls associated with the IP address you provide are treated as yours and billed to you. You therefore need full control of that address.

How much does a SIP trunk cost?

There is a one-off setup fee and a monthly fee based on the number of concurrent channels used during the billing period. Inbound and outbound calls are charged separately, with rates depending on the country. Contact us for current pricing.
